To me
And only to me, of course
It falls on me funny, that
Today I have returned to find
…..Vibrating
…..Twirling
…..Percolating
…..Swimming
Not a single leaf
Just a great golden horseshoe
Glimmering across the ripples
Just like the sky
And this time, of course
As I came, consciously searching, for white noise
It fell on me, that
All the white, loud, thundering static of water
Glitters silently beside all that ache
All that trouble that seethes and soothes
…..Not from outside
But achingly and—illuminatingly—
Brilliantly from within
So back here in the wind, not a leaf to be seen
Or, except maybe a few sinking slowly
It turns out that I don’t want to be a quiet, stupid, laughed-at leaf because
…..(and here it is after so long)
All I see is the sparkles where leaves used to be, and they
Want to be gorgeous, just like me
